The H.C. Porter Gallery is located at 1216 Washington Street in the historic downtown district of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Vicksburg is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River about 40 miles west of Jackson, Mississippi’s capital city. With exciting revitalization, beautiful architecture, cool interesting restaurants, and a blending of our present-day with our nation’s civil war national park history, Vicksburg is one of Mississippi’s most popular tourist destinations. Historic Highway 61, as well as sections of the Great River Road National Parkway and the Mississippi Blues Trail, run right in front of the 19th-century four-story building which is now my home and signature gallery.
In a recent project, I collaborated with the Vicksburg National Military Park to create a historic Civil War painting underscoring my love of history, commitment to the city of Vicksburg, and my continued narrative of our shared humanity. Determined is the first in an annual series of my paintings that will commemorate the Civil War. The first image I selected to paint is of Sergeant Joseph Dore, 7th New York State Militia. The VNMP will be creating educational information around the piece.

Thank you to those who have given so much support to my traveling exhibition, Blues at Home: Mississippi’s Living Blues Legends! My environmental portraits featuring 31 of Mississippi’s living blues legends have combined art and music in an exciting way, often allowing the musicians to be present at the openings and share their personal Blues history creating memorable nights for all! Also, a selection of paintings and voices from my Backyards and Beyond: Mississippians and Their Stories documenting the first year after Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, can be experienced permanently at the Ground Zero Hurricane Museum in Waveland, MS.
I paint this state because I love this state and I hope it shows! Thank you for visiting my website and I hope you find an image that inspires you!
Warmly,
